What to expect at Cabrillo National monument + pics

I spent a very enjoyable 3 hours at Cabrillo National Monument yesterday – Labor Day 2024. It is a really beautiful place, with magnificent ocean views, amazing rock formations down near the tide pools, and so much historical value.

The photos I took really don’t do this place justice, but I hope they give you a sense of what to expect.

Here’s a few pieces of information that you might find useful that I noted while visiting

  • there is a fee to enter ($20 for a car, $10 for walkers/bikers), but this is waived if you’re military or ex-military
  • plenty of parking at the monument, but if you drive down to the tidepools it can be difficult to park there.
  • I visited at low tide which allowed for beautiful coastal pictures, but the tide pool area can be quite slippery
  • there are scheduled show times for the Cabrillo historical movie
  • the visitor center closes before the park, so if you want to shop do so early
  • you can find high and low tide info at this NOAA.gov link
  • you’ll need sunscreen and hats most of the year round, but I’d imagine this place could get windy at times
